David grew up in Michigan, leading his high school Cross Country and Track teams to regional championships, school records and all-state performances. He started swimming to avoid the frosty Michigan winters.
David attended Yale for college, where he walked on to the NCAA Div. I Cross Country and Track teams. He specialized in the 5k and 10k, and occasionally raced the mile and 3k Steeplechase.
After graduating from Yale, David was recruited by former Olympian Barb Lindquist to be part of the USA Triathlon Collegiate Recruitment Program. During his first season in 2012, David earned his pro card at the Philadelphia and New York City Triathlons, and began the transition into professional racing, specializing in Sprint and Olympic distance races. From 2011-2015, he was coached by former pro triathlete Coach Kelli Montgomery, who is based in Wallingford, CT.
David stopped competing in 2015 to pursue a Master of Business Administration at Stanford and a Master of Public Administration at Harvard. But his competitive spirit and love of athletics and balanced lives lives on!
