After 11 months, 2 injuries, and a surgery, I finally got back on the horse, racing yesterday at the Greenwich Triathlon!
The race was a wet one – it rained the night before and up through the race – so I pumped the breaks most of the race, resulting in a very slow bike split and 2nd place finish. But better safe than sorry for a first race back.
The good news is that my swim fitness hasn't missed a beat amidst the injuries this year. I was a strong first out of the water and had a nice lead onto the bike, much like many of the late-season races last year.
Meanwhile, run fitness is still on the comeback as my ankle tries to strengthen and heal at the same time. In order to strengthen it, I need to work it hard, and in order to heal it, I need to make sure I don't work it too hard. So it will take time.
Next up: some of my favorite local races in Madison and Branford in September, both sponsored by Zane's!
